Let Go.

Let Go.

Have you ever seen an action packed scene in a movie or show where someone is hanging off the ledge of a building, gripping with all of their might? As a viewer we hold our breath and hope that the character we have connected with will have a happy ending. Nearby, or rushing towards this person in distress is (hopefully) a friend, a family member, a good samaritan, or a rescuer of some kind who will reach out a hand just in the nick of time only to find their hand just out of reach. From our comfortable seats on the other side of the screen, we yell for our person in distress to reach out their hand. Just let go and grab the hero's hand! The hand is only a few inches away!

From the perspective of the person on the ledge, however, that hand is farther away than the ground below their feet. The hands that are securely clinging to the ledge is the only known safety. Those hands, that may be slipping, have so far kept them from falling and so daring to release that grip and reach out that hand to the hero seems unthinkable or impossible.

In the safety of our home, on solid ground, we know that the risk is calculated. The longer it takes for the character to take the risk and grab the hand, the more likely they will be unable to hold on for much longer.

So why do I bring up such stressful imagery? Lately, in my daily Instagram readings (instagram.com/tarotwithchar), I've been getting similar messages. What is safe? Our current situation. We may not be completely happy with our job, our relationship, or our progress but it is a situation in which we are comfortable because it is familiar. It feels safe because we have been hanging on as best we can. What if you could have more? What if you could invest your time and energy into something you really care about, that you are passionate about, and that makes you happy? Would you risk your safety? Would you let go of what is familiar and dare for a better situation?

We all have dreams both big and small. What are you willing to let go of? Make room in your life for what you want. If your life is filled with work for a job you don't love or a relationship that doesn't work or distracting habits that leave you depleted and nowhere closer to your goals, then how do you expect to live the life of your dreams? Don't focus on the falling. Don't focus on hanging on tight to what isn't meant for you. Make space. Take a chance. Let go. Reach for your goals and thrive.
